Introduction
Large quantity of usable thermal energy from exhaust gases, cooling water or cooling air in industrial processes is emitted into environment every year in the world, causing energy waste and serious thermal pollution. On the other hand, many industrial processes require steam or hot water in great amount to heat fluid stream. As a very effective technique, absorption heat transformer (AHT) can be applied to upgrade large quantity of low-grade waste heat with temperature of 60 - 100ºC in industrial processes. Due to its high recovery ratio (about 50%) of waste heat, outstanding contribution to environment protection and very low energy consumption, AHT has already drawn grat attention in the field of waste heat reutilization in industrial processes.
In 1999, the first domestic industrial-scale AHT unit was set up in Synthetic Rubber Division of SINOPEC Yanshan Petrochemical Company (BYPC), used for recovering the waste heat of 98 ºC released from the steam stripping vapour, i.e. steam and organic mixture vapour, in coagulation section.
Technical Characteristics
The gross temperature lift falls into the range of 20 and 30ºC, with an average value of about 25ºC. Vertical shell-and-tube heat exchanger is used as the condenser, while vertical falling liquid film heat exchangers are applied to the absorber, evaporator and generator. The heat exchanger adopts high efficiency intensified tube. The falling film heat exchanger has the following advantages:(1) no pressure drop occurs within the falling film, so that the shell side of the heat exchanger can be operated at higher pressure compared with other types; (2) high heat transfer coefficient; (3) simple structure of falling film type heat exchanger, benefiting the leakage proof of the AHT system.
