Process for Alkylation of Toluene with Methanol to Produce Xylene (S-MTX)

  • Introduction
  • Technical Characteristics

Introduction

The S-MTX process is a new route from toluene to xylene. The difference between the alkylation process of toluene with methanol and the traditional toluene disproportionation technology is the using of coal chemical products - methanol as alkylation feedstock, which expands the application of coal chemical products to achieve the dynamic integration of coal chemical industry and petrochemical technology. Introduction of methanol can maximize the use of toluene for xylene production to save oil resource.

Technical Characteristics

The using of MTX-1000 catalyst brings high space velocity, good stability, high methyl utilization and low ethylbenzene amount in the products.
Both coal-based methanol and toluene are used as feedstock to produce high quality xylene. It leads to dynamic integration of petrochemical technology and coal chemical industry.
Inter-stage quench gas distributor and multi-stage layer fixed-bed reactor are developed for this process. Good fluid distribution is achieved to effectively control the temperature raise of the reactor beds and enhances the coking-resistance ability of the catalyst.
Thermal integration technology is applied to fully recycle the reaction heat so as to achieve energy conservation
Good environmental protection. Recovery of oil or methanol in the wastewater reduces feed consumption. The treatment of discharged wastewater is designed according to the quality requirement of process water.
