Introduction

Ethylbenzene is the key intermediate in the manufacture of styrene, which is one of the most important industrial monomers to synthesize polystyrene, butadiene-styrene rubber and ABS resin, etc. The EBLC process developed by Sinopec converts benzene and ethylene to high-quality ethylbenzene through alkylation and transalkylation reactions.

Technical Characteristics

1. EBLC adopts liquid phase alkylation with circulation for ethylbenzene production in the fixed bed. The fresh benzene is mixed directly with the circulating stream to absorb reaction heat, so the heat recovery is improved and the energy consumption for feed preheating is descended.
2. By multiple- feeding points of ethylene and alkylation product circulation, ethylene dissolution is improved and the benzene to ethylene molar ratio is easily lowered, which benefits the low load of benzene column, and reduce the energy consumption of the process. Moreover, the alkylation product circulation helps to effectively inhibit the coking on the catalyst, and improve the stability of the catalyst.
3. With moderate operating conditions, the EBLC process is an environmentally friendly technology, which has solved the problems of corrosion and environmental pollution in the traditional process using AlCl3 as catalyst.
4. Petroleum benzene and ethylene of polymeric grade or condensed ethylene could be used as raw materials.
