FCC light cycle oil (LCO) are characterized by its high content of sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics, high density, poor color, low cetane number (CN) or cetane index (CI) and low stability. In order to upgrade this LCO to high quality clean diesel, SINOPEC has successfully developed MCI technology for maximally improving cetane number of LCO.
Through the removal of sulfur and nitrogen in LCO, partially saturation of aromatics, and selectively the ring-opening reaction, MIC process produce high-quality clean diesel with low sulfur and nitrogen, and condensed aromatics contents, low density, high cetane number.
